Bell County receives funding for new voting machines
KCEN-TV, Texas. February 24, 2005.

New voting machines could be on the way to Bell County soon and Thursday commissioners got some help paying for them.

Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams presented a grant for $1.2 million to the county. The federal ?Help America Vote Act" requires counties to replace the old punch-card ballot boxes with new electronic machines by January of next year.

The federal money will go along way in helping to pay for the new machines.

"Whether it's county or private enterprise, cash flow is a big deal,? Williams said. ?This will help in that respect and we're glad to do it. It's gonna work out good, not only for the county but for voters in Texas."

More than $145 million will also be given out to other counties across Texas to help buy new voting machines.
