Voters to decide candidates in runoff.
The Daily Citizen. June 12, 2006. By Jeff Hunter.
White County voters will finalize the ballot for November's general election today by choosing among state and local candidates in the Democratic primary runoff.
Local races include those to the Democratic candidates for Bald Knob mayor and alderman. In statewide races, voters will decide the party's candidates for lieutenant governor, attorney general and state treasurer. There are no Republican primary runoffs.
After initial problems with the county?s new iVotronic electronic voting machines ? including faulty electronic ballots, that forced the use of homemade paper ballots in early voting ? White County Clerk Tanya Burleson said ballots in today?s runoff will be cast electronically as originally planned.
?Everything will be electronic,? Burleson said. ?It will all be the same as the primary.?
In the Bald Knob mayor's race, incumbent Earl Strickland will square off with Jane Emde. Neither candidate received the necessary amount of votes in the May 23 primary ? one more than 50 percent ? to secure the nomination outright. The winner will face Alderman Jerry Case, the Republican candidate, in November.
Current alderman Charlotte Paulk will face Pat Leonard to determine the candidate for Bald Knob City Council, Ward 3, Position 2. The winner will be unchallenged in the November election.
In statewide races, voters will choose between Dustin McDaniel and Paul Suskie in the attorney general primary; Bill Halter and Sen. Tim Wooldridge in the lieutenant governor primary; and Mac Campbell and Martha Shoffner in the state treasurer primary.
Polling sites throughout the county will open at 7:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m.
