Voting Machine Mess-up Du Jour (Displayed 09/05/04)

Sarpy County, Nebraska. November, 2002. ES&S.
Optical scanners report incorrect election outcome.

The optical scan machines failed to tally “yes” votes on the Gretna school-bond issue, giving the false impression that the measure failed miserably. The measure actually passed by a 2-1 margin. Responsibility for the errors was attributed to ES&S, which provided the ballots and the machines.*
