"Myth Breakers Impact, Provisional Voting, and Website Announcements"
VotersUnite! Alert #2. June 10, 2004. Hi United Voters! Just an update so you'll know what's happening. IMPACT Good news! The Myth Breaker information is having an impact. Go to the Connecticut page and see how the registrars used the information to ask hard questions to the vendors. http://www.votersunite.org/info/ct-allstarred.asp. PROGRESS The home page (www.votersunite.org) now has a live counter that gives the current number of confirmed deliveries of Myth Breakers to local officials. You've done a wonderful job so far, but it's sitting at only about 10%, so we need you to get busy and either deliver more or get your friends involved. The good news is that it has been delivered to MANY more officials than the number reflects. Bill Faulkner handed out 75 copies to the U.S. Congress during Lobby Days; many of you have given them to your state legislators and chief election officials; and one was placed in the hands of Buster Soaries, Chairman of the EAC. We hear that some election officials are downloading them on their own. If you know of any, please tell us so we can star their counties. Nearly all the counties in Maryland have the booklet, half the counties in Ohio do, and two states – Iowa and Oklahoma – have turned Myth Breakers into a state grassroots project: See http://www.blogforiowa.com/blog/ProjectMythBreaker and http://www.oklahomagrassrootscampaign.com/VotersUniteOK.html Check out the stories of deliveries for more inspiration: http://www.votersunite.org/takeaction/kickoff.asp Then, take the challenge and deliver more copies to the counties in your state. PROVISIONAL VOTING Voters need to know about provisional voting, so spread the word! If you arrive at the polls and your name is not on the registration list, you can vote on a provisional ballot if you are a registered voter in that precinct. After the polls close, the officials check to make sure you are registered and if you are, your vote will count. Here are the requirements: 1) You must cast your provisional ballot in your home precinct. This means KNOW YOUR PRECINCT NUMBER. If you vote a provisional ballot in the wrong precinct, it will not count. 2) When you cast your ballot, you must complete an affidavit stating that you are a registered voter in that precinct and that you are eligible to vote. Don't forget to complete the affidavit! NEW INFORMATION ON THE SITE I put a little "New" on the Info button because there are some new features there. In particular, two color-coded maps that show the VVPB status of the states and the voting machine types in each state. They can help give you a view of what's going on nationally. Click the musical notes to hear Zeke Hoskin's terrific song written just for this movement.
