Mostly smooth sailing at polls, election officials in 2 counties say (PA)

The Vindicator    23 April 2008

Voting went well for the most part in Lawrence and Mercer counties, said board of elections representatives there.

A representative who answered the phone in Lawrence County said there were no problems at all as the polls were closing at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

In Mercer, Jeff Greenburg, board of elections director, said there were problems with two machines, but neither problem was serious.

He said that one machine, in Hermitage at Central Christian Church on Meadowbrook Road, didn’t work when that polling place opened. He said the polling place simply didn’t use it, and it had enough other machines.

Another machine, at the Greene Township Building on Dowling Schoolhouse Road, started freezing up at one point during the day, he said, so the polling place stopped using it.

He said that machine has 23 votes on it.

He said that if necessary, the company that manufactures the machines, Election Systems and Software out of Omaha, Neb., can retrieve those votes.
