Name problems at polling place
West Hartford-WTNH, Nov. 7, 2006

A problem with names may cause the votes of 29 people to not be counted.

Just after the polls opened at 6:00 a.m. elections workers at the St. John's polling station at the intersection of Farmington Ave. and Highland Ave. noticed that names for some assembly candidates were incorrect on one lever-style voting machine.

Registrar of Voters Allen Hoffman says the machine was shut down, but 29 people had already voted before the problem was noticed.

Hoffman says the validity of those votes will have to be determined later. The worst case scenario is that the votes won't count, and the people who cast those ballots can not vote again.

The machine was put back into service at 7:45 a.m.

In Enfield, mechanics were also called in to work on a lever machine that failed.
