In at least a half-dozen cases including some in Johnson County voters discovered that they couldn't cast ballots or that their vote likely wouldn't count.

Associated Press 29 October 2004 MADISON, Wis. - The state GOP asked the Wisconsin Elections Board on Friday to remove the names of 5,619 people registered to vote in Milwaukee, saying the addresses listed with city officials are fictitious and allowing them to vote would amount to fraud.
Milwaukee elections officials earlier this week voted 3-0 to reject a similar complaint from the Republican Party of Wisconsin seeking to eliminate the 5,619 people from voter registration lists.

John Byrne / Gary Post-Tribune 29 October 2004 CROWN POINT — Twenty percent of the provisional ballots cast in the East Chicago special Democratic mayoral primary were thrown out because poll workers did not properly sign the forms.
The unaccepted 54 ballots would not have changed the outcome of the East Chicago race, which George Pabey won by 3,183 votes over Robert Pastrick. But with several tight votes likely in Tuesday’s general election, confusion about the recently instituted provisional voting process could become important.

But the party's announcement may face its own challenges. The GOP found the allegedly illegal voters by using the same flawed list of felons that had been drawn up by the state elections division, but was scrapped after news organizations exposed its inaccuracies.
