DAVID HUNT and SHAKAYA ANDRES, The Florida Times-Union 22 October 2008 Elections Supervisor Jerry Holland said a combination of poll worker and mechanical errors pushed ballot printing out-of-line, leaving the scanning equipment unable to read some of the votes. Ballots are made one-by-one as voters check in at the polls.

Kent Carper, president of the Kanawha County Commission, said on Tuesday, "I am filing a complaint about ES&S with the secretary of state. I have several major concerns, including the lack of technical support to election officials. "When you look around the country, and see huge voter lines in places like Florida, you know these machines need technical support," Carper said.

Supervisor of Elections Kathy Dent is apologizing to some voters for an error on absentee ballots, and sending out new ballots with a letter explaining the gaffe. Dent says the State Senate District 23 race between Republican Nancy Detert and Democrat Morgan Bentley was left off some absentee ballots.

Koon said he had no problem casting an early vote for president. "However, when I chose Jay Rockefeller - and there is at least a finger's distance between the two choices - it ed Jay Wolfe and printed his name on the receipt. "I pushed Jay Rockefeller again a few times and it canceled Jay Wolfe. Then I chose Jay Rockefeller again and it verified it."

While taking advantage of early voting at the City-County Building in Wheeling, Kusic noticed that the electronic vote she cast for her chosen presidential candidate was wrong. She attempted to fix her vote, but the same thing happened again - the vote was credited to the other candidate, even though she says she touched her candidate's name on the voting screen.

I submitted a Freedom of Information Law request for all records in New York’s NYSVOTER voter registration database. Early in October, I received a copy of NYSVOTER records from September 23, 2008. I wrote a program to analyze the 12,010,045 voter records and can now report the number of voters who have had their status set to “Purged” or “Inactive” in the Empire state, and the reasons given for the change.

Subpoenas were sent to officials with the City of Laredo, Webb County and the Laredo Independent School District by lawyers for Republican candidate Louis H. Bruni in advance of today's hearing on electronic voting machines. Bruni, a candidate for Texas Senate District 21, is seeking an injunction that would prevent the use of the machines during early voting and on Election Day for the 2008 general election, except for those needed by the visually impaired.

Monday, when optical ballot scanning machines refused to read ballots Monday at several polling places, Supervisor Jerry Holland thought they had the problems worked out. Holland said seven machines that indicated the ballots physically too long or were affected by high humidity were replaced on Monday and 10 more back-up machines were ordered from the manufacturer. "Obviously from what we learned (Monday), we will make adjustments and make improvements to the equipment. We've changed out equipment, and at the end of the day, all the equipment was working," Holland said.

Like this: He voted a straight ticket for one party. Then he wanted to deselect two judges he didn’t want to vote for. And he didn’t want to vote for the other party’s candidates. He didn't want anyone in those races. But when he deselected the first one, the machine showed him with a check mark for the other party’s candidate in that race. He complained to the election judge, who, he says, told him the machine did that automatically. The voter told the election judge he didn’t believe it should. She came over and watched the voter deselect the second judge. That one stayed blank.
